It’s a very sad day for a family-owned store on 5667 Peach Street. G.J. Miller Auto Supply, founded by Gerard Joseph Miller in 1915 has finally closed its doors after servicing the area for over 100 years.
If you drive north on State Street you may notice the humble round brick building next to the Chevy dealership. This is G.J. Miller Auto Supply, a staple in the Erie community since the days of the Ford Model T. Chuck Head had been working behind the counter of the family-owned business for over 40 years.
He became the manager after his business partners, Glenn Miller and Brian Miller, grandsons of G.J. Miller, passed away in recent years.
Chuck said his wife’s grandfather started selling auto parts before there were a lot of automobiles.
Age became a factor and Chuck and his partner had long ago realized that they didn’t have anyone else in the Miller family who was in a position to continue running the business.
After his business partner died he realized it was time for him to retire.
Hyde sold the paint supply portion of his business to Colours, a family-owned auto paint company based out of Wilkes-Barre. Colours will take over at the same location.
Chuck thanked the Erie Community for supporting the G.J. Miller family and for allowing them to serve the auto repair industry for so many years.
